Audubon at Retro on Roscoe
Thank you to all of the Audubon parents and staff members who worked at the Audubon gates at Retro on Roscoe. Audubon was able to give back to the neighborhood which has been very supportive of the school,
and the event made a record profit. Audubon earned $1500 at this event, and parents had a lot of fun!

Other Announcements

School Supplies
This year Audubon is saving you time and money by having all of your child’s (K-8) school supplies ready on the first day of school. The cost
is $55 per student and can be paid for by cash or money order only. No checks, please. The deadline for payment is September 12th. Waivers are available for families requiring financial assistance or with multiple children. The primary benefit of this new program is to allow
teachers to choose the supplies that come into their
classrooms and to have all supplies ready for all children on day one. The uniformity of
supplies also helps with several classroom management problems, including the "I forgot my pencil!" problem.

Lunch Tickets
Starting August 18th, Audubon Parents of students grades K-8 can once again purchase packs of lunch tickets in the office for full-price and
reduced-price lunches as well as milk. Accepted methods of payment for lunch tickets include cash or money order. Tickets must be
purchased by September 12th. After the 12th no cash will be accepted in the classrooms for lunches or milk, only tickets.

Science Lab Parent Assistants Needed
Audubon is putting together a team of parent “science lab assistants”. The team's primary responsibility would be to inventory and refurbish
the science kits each quarter. Secondary responsibilities might include helping with initial prep of the new kits, setting up and taking down
science equipment in the classrooms, and developing extension activities. This volunteer opportunity does NOT have to be done during
school hours. This work could be done between 5-6pm. If interested, please email Audubon Science Teacher Wendy Anderson at
wwanderson@cps.edu.

Girl Scouts
This year Audubon will have Girl Scouts Troops for grades 1-6. This includes a Brownies Troop for 1st graders led by Audubon Moms Jane Wharton and Shara Morgan. The 2nd and 3rd Grade Brownies Troop will be led by Audubon Moms Robin Kain and Jessica Nichols. Junior Girl Scouts for Grades 4-6 will be led by Audubon Moms Kathy Argentar and Lara Pruitt. We do not currently have a leader for a Daisies Troop (Kindergarten), and some troops need additional leaders to accommodate additional girls. If you’re interested in leading or participating at any Girl Scout level, please email audubonptp@yahoo.com. All troops will meet this year on Wednesdays from 1:45-3:15.

Room Parents Needed
The Room Parent Network accomplished a lot last year, including additional parent volunteers in classrooms, assisting teachers with communication efforts and homework, beautiful classroom art
projects and much more. If you’re interested in being a room parent this year, please email audubonptp@yahoo.com. We’re also looking for one or two room parents to communicate ideas and initiatives from school administration, APTP or FoA to other room parent teams.

Roscoe Village Neighbors Donates $20,000 to Audubon School
Thank you RVN for your recent GENEROUS contribution to Audubon School of $20,000. In the photo at left, Principal John Price is receiving the check from Roscoe Village Education Coalition Chair Brian O'Connell and from RVN President Alison Kramme. The funds will be used to support the school’s Redmoon Theater Art Company Integration Program. Principal John Price tells us "Audubon has developed a
strong partnership with Redmoon Theater Company. Each year, Redmoon artists work alongside Audubon teachers to create unique learning opportunities for Audubon students. Through close collaboration, the classroom teacher and Redmoon artists develop units that deepen children's knowledge of both the academic subject matter and a
medium for artistic expression. The on-going theme is "Nature in the City" and students in grades 1st, 3rd, and 6th through 8th (9 classrooms) explore this theme together through collage, performance art, puppet theater, and art installations. The teachers working with these students have noticed more active participation in learning, a willingness to think creatively, and an ability to apply concepts to new circumstances. Audubon strongly believes that the Redmoon program is helping their students develop better critical thinking skills, more confidence, and great maturity." For more information on the Redmoon Theatre Partnership Program, please visit  http://www.redmoon.org/naprogram/schoolpartnership/.

Audubon Needs Help Planning its First Recent Homecoming
Audubon has been a part of the Roscoe Village community for more than one hundred years. Many Audubon Alumni have kept in touch
over the years, and we would like to reach out and invite them all back to their alma mater for a party this fall. So, if you’re into party planning or reconnecting with those who came before us, you might be interested in assisting the Audubon Homecoming Committee. This committee will plan an evening alumni event, probably in October in the school gym with appetizers, refreshments, balloons, entertainment, a fundraiser, and other fun activities. Guests will also be offered tours and for some, and Principal for a Day or Teacher for a Day for a few folks. We’re looking for other great ideas to make the evening special. If you’re interested in helping out in this fun way, please email audubonptp@yahoo.com.

Attorney Needed
Audubon is looking for a parent who is an attorney familiar with endowments and/or trusts. If you are interested in assisting in this way,

Mother Goose Story Time Needs a Parent Volunteer
Mother Goose Story Time is in danger of discontinuing if we don’t find a few more parents interested in assisting. At this fun story time,
children, ages 3 and under, accompanied by parents and caregivers come for story, craft and snack. They meet at 9:30 Thursday mornings
in the Audubon community room. If you are interested in being a guest reader or leading a craft, please email Caryn Hoffstedt at
D2CHI@sbcglobal.net or audubonptp@yahoo.com.

New Grant Writing Team
Audubon has a new grant writing team. This group of parents includes: Alison Kramme, Barbara Kantrow, Alicia Merline, Carl Vogel,
Jennifer Mach and Lisa Wallis. They will be researching grant opportunities for many programs and initiatives at Audubon. If you’re
interested in joining them to assist in the researching, writing or editing process, please email alison.kramme@sbcglobal.net. As several
members of this group are very experienced in grant writing, additional volunteers are very welcome but need not be very experienced.
Thanks grant writers!

Parents Needed for 2008 RVN Boo Crew (RV Halloween Parade and Pizza Party Committee)
Audubon has taken on an important role in the extremely popular Roscoe Village Halloween Parade and Pizza Party. Last year,
approximately 300 neighborhood and school families came to Audubon after the RV Halloween Parade to enjoy activities, crafts, games and
music led by Audubon teachers, as well as pizza, sandwiches and cookies, donated by generous neighborhood businesses. What a great
community event! This year, the Boo Crew is looking for a few Audubon parents to join other neighborhood parents to 1) work with teachers
to organize classroom activities, 2) decorate the school, 3)acquire refreshments and goodie bags, 4)hang posters in the storefronts on
Roscoe, and 5) more! This year, these two events are planned for Sunday, October 26th, time TBD. Interested volunteers can email
audubonptp@yahoo.com or info@roscoevillage.org

Roscoe Village Education Coalition Needs Audubon Parents
Looking for a way to get involved in a way that would benefit Audubon and only requires an occasional evening out of your busy schedule?
The Roscoe Village Education Coalition Committee serves as a liaison between Roscoe Village Neighbors and Audubon and Jahn schools,
keeping RVN abreast of new developments, initiatives and progress at the two schools. Audubon needs a few parents to help keep RVN
abreast of school news. If interested, please email audubonptp@yahoo.com.

Barnes & Noble Fundraiser Needs Assistance
Friends of Audubon is looking for a parent to work with Barnes & Noble (Clybourn) for our Winter Fundraiser, scheduled for November 16th, when Audubon earns money from all purchases made by Audubon families and guests on the date of the fundraiser. This volunteer role involves working with the B&N rep and submitting a promotional flyer (that B&N creates) to the school office for backpack dissemination. Please email
boilerkha@yahoo.com if you’re interested.

Audubon Around the World Bulletin Board
Don’t forget to contribute your summer travel photos to the Audubon Around the World Bulletin Board. The board, located in the hallway
outside the office, celebrates and encourages our students’ love for and appreciation of geography, travel and other cultures. Photos of
Audubon students wearing Audubon gear, visiting other states and countries may be submitted on an ongoing basis to update this board.
Email your digital photos to audubonptp@yahoo.com or bring prints into the office and put them in the APTP mail slot. Thank you to
Audubon Parents Michele Owens, Sherri Tonozzi and Laura Engel who created this fun display last year and have been updating it.
